1. Game Objective
The winner is the first person to distribute all of their "Koban" (gold coins)!
- Players take the role of colorful meeples representing Nezumi Kozo (thieves). Your goal is to distribute all your Koban before the other thieves while hiding from the Okappiki (police), represented by the black pawn.
2. Setup
Shuffle the 9 Roof Cards and arrange them in a 3x3 grid.
- Randomly place the 9 roof cards (two of each number 1, 2, 3, and 4; and one card of number 5) on the field.
Further Details:
- Place a center marker on the middle card of the 3x3 grid.
- Place one Koban on each of the two "1" cards beforehand.
Distribute 5 Roof Cards to each player.
- Each player receives a set of 5 roof cards (one of each number from 1 to 5).
- Players start the game with 4 Koban each.
- Players place their meeple on any roof card of their choice.
Further Details:
- Keep the color card that matches your meeple in front of you (to help remember your color).
- It is okay for multiple meeples to be on the same roof card.
Arrange Direction Cards and the Okappiki.
- Place the direction cards in a cross pattern and put the pawn (Okappiki) on the "Center" card to complete the preparation!
3. How to Play
Everyone plays one card from their hand simultaneously.
- Players take their turns in order starting from the one who played the highest number.
- Move your meeple vertically or horizontally by the number shown on your card, distributing your Koban as you go.
- After moving, exchange your played card with a card from the field to end your turn.
Further Details:
-
<Play order>
- If multiple players play the same number, the order is determined as follows:
- →The player with more Koban remaining goes first →then the winner of Rock-Paper-Scissors. <Move>
- You can move forward, backward, left, or right. You can pass through the same spot multiple times, but diagonal movement is not allowed. <Koban>
- You can place a Koban on any roof you land on during your movement.
- You cannot place a Koban on a roof that already has one.
- Only on "5" cards can you place up to 2 Koban.
- If the card you played has the same number as another player's card, you can only place 1 Koban regardless of the card's value. <Card exchange>
- After moving, you must exchange your card with a roof card that does not have a meeple on it.
- If the card you take has a Koban on it, you must take that Koban as well.
- The card you take from the field is not added to your hand; instead, it is placed in a discard pile.
The Okappiki chases the Nezumi Kozo!
- The Okappiki moves one step on the direction cards for each step taken by a thief in that same direction.
- After the last thief and the Okappiki finish moving, the Okappiki searches for thieves starting from the direction where the pawn stopped.
- "Card Number = Roof Height" If you are high enough to hide, you are Safe; if found, you are Out.
- A thief who is caught must regretfully take all the Koban from that entire row...
Further Details:
- If the Okappiki cannot move a step (hits the edge), it "steps in place" in that direction.
- If the Okappiki ends its movement on the "Center" card, all thieves are Safe and not found.
- If there are multiple thieves in the same row, the one closer to the Okappiki is Out.
- If multiple thieves are on the same roof, the last one to arrive is Out.
4. Ending the Game
The game ends when someone distributes all their Koban!
- The game concludes in the turn when a thief successfully distributes all of their Koban.
- Even if no one distributes all Koban, the game ends after 5 turns when everyone's hands are empty.
- The player with the fewest Koban wins. Koban remaining at the end of the game count as negative points.
Further Details:
- If you are caught by the Okappiki on the same turn you distribute your last Koban, you must take the Koban from the row and the game continues.
- If there are multiple winners in the same turn, it is a joint victory!
